This iconic cycle route offers magnificent stretches between Barre-de-Monts and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Cycling on the Vélodyssée means crossing varied landscapes: fragrant pine forests, fine sandy dunes, rocky headlands and lively fishing ports. It’s a route that provides a sense of adventure, while remaining very comfortable. The facilities are designed for cyclists, with numerous shaded picnic areas, water points and «Accueil Vélo» (Cyclist Welcome) services all along the route. It is an experience to be had at least once, to feel the sea breeze while covering the kilometres without excessive effort.
Discovering the Marais Breton via the back routes
Beyond the main roads, it's in the maze of the marsh's small lanes that cycling truly comes into its own. Here, a bicycle is the ideal way to soak up the local atmosphere. You'll encounter old Maraîchine farms, traditional stone bridges, and small waterways where boats patiently await the eel fishermen. The flat terrain allows for hours of riding without fatigue, making it perfect for exploring surrounding villages like Beauvoir-sur-Mer or Bouin. Numerous themed routes are offered, allowing you to discover the history of salt, the marsh wildlife, or the local religious heritage.
